The Beatles blue plaque
** On 10 November 1961, The Beatles played for an audience of 4,000 people at the New Brighton Tower Ballroom as the headline act of a five-and-a-half-hour concert named Operation Big Beat. Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Remo Four and Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes also performed at the concert. The Royal Ferry Hotel
This building was the Royal Ferry Hotel which opened in c1850 at the bottom of Victoria Road. It was adjacent to New Brighton Pier which was built in the 1830's as a landing stage for the Liverpool ferry. The original pier was made of wood but due to the popularity of the ferries, it was replaced with an iron construction in 1867 which was extended to 660ft in 1899-1900. The New Brighton ferry ceased to run in 1971 and the pier was eventually dismantled in 1978. The hotel has recently been converted into apartments.
