Former cinema, Borough Road, Wallasey
A theatre opened on this site in 1899. After a fire in 1908 it was rebuilt, became the La Scala Theatre in 1912, the Hippodrome Theatre in 1918, and the Embassy Luxury Theatre in 1936. A succession of owners followed. Its life as a cinema ended as early as 1959, after which it was used for all the usual things - nightclub, bingo hall - before completely shutting down in 2012. At the time of this photo it looked disused, but "by June 2017 it was a furniture store, and by May 2018 it is a gymnasium." Information from cinematreasures.org.
