The Tudor Cafe, Egremont, Wirral, Cheshire
Back in 1951, this pleasant and welcoming mock-Tudor style cafe would provide a nice cup of tea and piece of chocolate cake (or something more substantial if you wanted it) for the stroller along Egremont Promenade. I wonder if it's still there, although I doubt it - it's probably been replaced by a McDonald's or Burger King.

Gibson House, King Street, Wallasey
Built in 1906 for mariners' widows (complementing nearby Image]). It has lain empty for more than a decade and its owner, Nautilus Welfare Fund, wants to demolish it, a plan that has been approved by Wirral Council. It may yet be saved by a last gasp rescue deal.

Old entrance at Mariners' Park Estate, Egremont
This estate is run by NUMAST - a union for seafarers. Several of the unique buildings here are dedicated in memory of loved ones. Nearby is the Mariners' Park Care Home, which was opened by the Princess Royal in 2002. There is a small but pretty park with views across the River Mersey.

Gibson House Memorial Home, Egremont
This was built in 1906 as flats for the widows of merchant seamen. It is named after Andrew Gibson, a wealthy cotton merchant, who made a donation towards the construction of the building and provided other welfare facilities. The building was owned in recent times by NUMAST and they were getting permission from the Charity Commission to 'dispose' of the building, which would be highly sought after if put up for sale. Unfortunately, it does not meet the criteria for a listed building.

Ancient stone on Egremont Promenade
Aged piece of stone with some interesting inscriptions, shame there is no interpretation panel giving details, unable to find any information online, be grateful to anyone that can provide further facts. - I have now been informed that stone is not old at all, one of a series of similar sandstone pieces installed along the Mersey in the '70's by a local artist!
