A stray's view of Capenhurst pinfold
A pinfold [or pound] is where stray livestock were kept, to be claimed. This one is about 6 metres square and 1.4 metres high. There were once around 153 pinfolds in Cheshire, now only eight are left. A pinder [or pindar] was the person who collected the strays and put them in the pinfold.
