Malcolm Uphill plaque, Caerphilly
On the wall here. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2925730 The plaque records that the licensed premises are named after one of the all-time motorcycling greats. A native of Caerphilly, Malcolm Uphill had many successes in the Isle of Man TT races and was the first to lap the island at 100mph. West Mon bus no.17, Station Terrace, Caerphilly, 1966
The West Monmouthshire Omnibus Board was a municipal undertaking jointly owned by Bedwellty and Mynyddislwyn Urban District Councils and was based in Blackwood. Its main operating area was in the Sirhowy valley, but it did have a share of the long route between Cardiff and Tredegar with Cardiff Corporation and Caerphilly. It became Islwyn Borough Transport following local government reorganisation in 1974. The bus is a Leyland Titan PD2 with lowbridge body by Massey, delivered in 1965.
