GWR 'Mogul' 5322 in Barry Scrapyard
5322 arrived at Barry late in 1964 so has been here for less than 4 years, short enough time to allow the last vestiges of the lined livery still to show on the cabside. It left the yard in March 1969, the 3rd loco to do so, for restoration at the Great Western Society's Caerphilly base. Restoration was completed in May 1971. Significantly it was the first ex-Barry loco to be restored to steam - thus confounding all those sceptics who had decreed that restoration of ex-scrapyard locos was an impossible dream. Since 1973 it has been based at the Society's Didcot Railway Centre.

Railtour at Barry
The Woodhams Phoenix railtour from London was the first to visit Barry Island for some twenty years. The tour also traversed all the track at the Barry Tourist Railway, and is seen here approaching Gladstone Bridge Station on that railway with Class 66 No. 66116 at the front and No. 66113 at the rear.

Innovation Quarter, Barry Waterfront
The derelict building on the right housed the hydraulic pump that worked the dock machinery. To the left is the new Innovation Quarter which houses small business units to promote economic activity in this area of industrial decline.

Woodhams scrapyard at Barry.
A few of the 200 plus steam locos awaiting their fate at Woodhams scrap yard in Barry. Luckily, many of these engines were rescued for preservation and can now be seen operating, fully restored, on Britain's 'heritage' railways.
