Road by Gelli-gaer Common
The minor road goes north across moorland past the entrance, left, to the Cwmbargoed Disposal Point.

Cwmbargoed Disposal Point
The depot at Cwmbargoed is where coal from Ffos y Fran opencast colliery is loaded into rail transport. Here a train destined for Port Talbot steelworks, headed by class 66 locomotive No. 66151, is filled after arriving from Margam and reversing into the loading siding.

Last rites at Cwmbargoed
One of the last buckets of coal is loaded into the last wagons of the last coal train to leave Cwmbargoed. Although Ffos-y-Fran mine closed at the end of 2023, coal stocked on the surface has continued to be removed by train until now, but this is the last one.

Cwm Bargoed Coal Depot
This depot is the rail head for opencast mines in Merthyr Tydfil and is presently mothballed but with a major opencast about to start just North of here it is being made ready.
