Depiction of Trevithick's locomotive on Puddlers Bridge, Pentrebach
On the left side of the footbridge here. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6079863 Depicted is the world's first working steam locomotive which was built in 1802 in Coalbrookdale to Richard Trevithick's design. Its connection with this area is that the world's first locomotive-hauled railway journey took place on February 21st 1804 when Trevithick's locomotive hauled a train along the tramway of the nearby Penydarren Ironworks in Merthyr Tydfil.

View over A4060 roundabout
Merthyr Tydfil's A4060 eastern bypass runs below Merthyr Common - an area transformed by minerals exploitation over the last 150 years. Subsequently re-landscaping, new road construction and business parks have changed the area utterly from the original green valley.
