Jack Jones black plaque, Chapel Row, Merthyr Tydfil
The black plaque is on the wall at the northern end of Chapel Row. It records that author and playwright Jack Jones (1884-1970) wrote about working class life in the valleys. His famous work Off to Philadelphia in the Morning was based on the life of Joseph Parry who was born in a nearby Chapel Row cottage http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4620656 in 1841.

Joseph Parry's Cottage, Chapel Row, Merthyr Tydfil
One of a row http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4620639 of houses built in the 1820s for the workers of Cyfarthfa Ironworks, this cottage was the birthplace in 1841 of Joseph Parry, Wales's best-known composer. His much loved song Myfanwy remains a favourite of Welsh Male Voice Choirs. The interior of the cottage is set in the 1840s, showing the living conditions of the ironworkers at the time when Parry was a young boy. The upstairs galleries house an exhibition about Parry's life and work, and a small section giving information about Merthyr Tydfil's industrial past.
