W railway sign, Mountain Ash
Viewed from Aberdare Road opposite Mountain Ash cemetery. Located alongside the Aberdare Branch of the Merthyr Line railway, the W sign originally instructed the drivers of steam locomotives to sound the whistle. The modern equivalent is for drivers of diesels to sound the horn.

Notices near Fernhill level crossing
Located on the south side of this http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3857436 level crossing. The notice on the right shows
Stop Look Listen Beware of trains.
A notice on the left states that is against the law to smoke on this (Fernhill) station. The red notice warns you not to trespass on the railway. The triangular sign warns of turbulence caused by trains passing at speed. All passenger trains stop at Fernhill, so perhaps the potential danger is from freight trains.
