W sign at Taffs Well railway station
The W sign originally instructed the driver of a steam locomotive to sound the whistle.
The modern equivalent is for the driver of a diesel to sound the horn.

Taff's Well station view towards Cardiff
Taff's Well gets its name from a healing spring located beside the river, unfortunately at present it is a ruin.

VR 512 and VR 514 at the northern end of Taffs Well railway station
Signal VR512 on the left is on the side of the station normally used for northbound trains.
VR514 on the right is used when reverse working is in operation, or other special occasions.

Platform alteration work at Taffs Well
In connection with the building of a new Metro depot near the station, the Up platform (far side of the photo) is being moved slightly north, by removing its southern end and lengthening the northern end (seen here).

Unusual sign at the NW edge of Taffs Well railway station
The triangular sign serves to remind drivers that some trains are not scheduled to stop at the next station, Treforest Estate. On weekdays there are usually six trains an hour stopping at Taffs Well in this direction, only two of which are scheduled to stop at Treforest Estate station.http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2753225

Taffs Well railway station and car park

City Link depot in Taffs Well
Viewed from Taffs Well railway station in early March 2015. City Link announced in late December 2014 that it had gone into administration. At that time, administrators Ernst and Young said that there were likely to be substantial redundancies in the next few days, with "a portion of employees" retained for up to three months .
