War Memorial - Whitchurch
In the time that those commemorated lived here this area would have been an independent village far from the centre of Cardiff. Today it is part of the urban sprawl that has engulfed the world they knew, a situation that now prevails throughout the British Isles.

Whitchurch Free Library and War Memorial
Whitchurch Free Library was built in 1904 at a cost of £2,000. With the passing of the Libraries Act in 1895, Whitchurch had had a library housed in a private house and this building was erected to replace it. The library was listed by Cadw as Grade II in 2002 as a characterful public building which has historic interest in the centre of the Community. The War Memorial was erected some time in the 1920's. It is a granite obelisk inscribed with the text "IN PROUD & HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF WHITCHURCH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 SEMPER FIDELIS 1030-1945". It is surmounted by a bronze figure of an infantryman with reversed arms. Like the library it too is listed as Grade II by Cadw and at the same time.
