The Flying Banana at Cardiff
To mark the end of class 43, High Speed Train operations to London by Great Western Railway, GWR ran a farewell railtour - The Flying Banana, named after the original nickname of the HSTs - across much of its network. The tour featured first-built production power car No. 43002 (in its 1976 retro-livery) and last-built No. 43198. Here the tour departs Cardiff on its way back to London from Carmarthen.

Retro-liveried HST in Cardiff

The empty stock from a Northern Belle railtour from Leeds to Cardiff is seen being worked back to Pengam Sidings in Welsh Capital with class 57 locomotive No. 57314 in charge. Classmate No. 57313 is on the rear and had brought the train in.
