Alliance sculpture, Cardiff
Do the coloured sections move with the tides? Wikipedia says "Alliance's arrow and hoop seem to balance in the air. The hoop, filled with a phosphorescent liquid, is partially submerged below the pavement, with a mechanism programmed to make it rise and fall with the Bristol Channel tides." We didn't have time to watch. More about it here; http://www.jbmetais.com/index.php?act=article&id=39

Reflections of commerce - Cardiff
Buildings of the revamped Hayes area of the recently 'blitzed' centre of the city are reflected in the glass structure of the brand new John Lewis store. A considerable amount of demolition, including that of quite modern structure, was necessary to expand the city's centre into one of the most prestigious in the United Kingdom.

Sculpture in The Hayes, Cardiff
This sculpture was originally commissioned and displayed in The Hayes in Cardiff in the 1970's as part of a UK wide series of public art. It was designed and made by sculptor Garth Evans as a symbol of our industrial heritage. After a few months on display it was moved to storage in Leicestershire. A local Arts Centre, Chapter, ran a successful campaign to get the sculpture returned after a break of 47 years. Even so, this may not be its permanent home in the Welsh capital as the current installation is temporary.

Cardiff: The Hayes on a wet night
The Hayes, one of Cardiff's principal shopping streets, is pedestrianised and we look along it from its southern end in a horrid drizzle and high winds.
