Denston War Memorial
The memorial bears the names of the eleven men lost in the Great War. The name of Alfred Wharton, the only man lost in the Second World War is not named on the memorial. He was a Leading Seaman on HMS 'Achates' which sunk on 31st December 1942, after being hit by the German cruiser Admiral Hipper killing 113 of her crew; 81 were rescued.
