Catholic church of St Vincent de Paul, Ditton Lane
This prefabricated building was originally a ward at the First Eastern General Hospital, set up in Cambridge to treat war casualties during the First World War. After the end of hostilities it was purchased for the Church of Our Lady & the English Martyrs in Hills Road, where it was renamed Houghton Hall and served as a Working Men's Club and parish centre. In 1939, when a new parish hall and school were built, the old building was relocated to High Street in Chesterton to serve as the church of St Laurence. Following the opening of the new St Laurence's church on Milton Road in 1958, it was again moved to its present site. In the 1980s it was repaired and rearranged internally under the architect Julian Limentani. More recently, further repairs have been carried out by volunteers.
