Harston: contrasting styles on Church Street
On the left a dignified, four-square late Georgian house with a hipped slate roof, to the right a pantiled cottage with some Gothick windows (one showing in this picture) - which must have been the height of fashion when put in some time in the first part of the nineteenth century.

The timber-framed house on the right has a shuttered Gothick window (and another at the rear) and front door. Shadows were deep and colours intense on the bright morning of the day before the winter solstice.

Pantiles, creeper and curly lamp standard
Pantile Cottage has buff local tiles - always a bit of a disappointment to someone like me who is more familiar with the rich orange ones of the East Midlands or Norfolk.
