The Old Man and the (even older) Tortoise
See introduction on Image Charles Darwin was only 26 when he visited the Galapagos, but Quentin Blake has not let this fact influence his drawing.

What happens if I squeeze here?
See introduction on Image This is a composite of two illustrations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:William_Harvey_(_1578-1657)_Venenbild.jpg from William Harvey's "Exercitatio Anatomica de Motu Cordis et Sanguinis in Animalibus". Including this in Cambridge's 800th celebrations is a bit of a cheek: Harvey had been an undergraduate at Caius, but was working at Bart's in London by the time of this publication. The motion of the pointing figure causes blurring on this 1/8th second exposure.

Spot the misprint
Another shot from the light show seen in Image These are all titles taken from the "Titles of Dissertations approved for the PhD, MSc, and MLitt Degrees during the Academic Year 2007-2008." http://www.camgrad.cam.ac.uk/students/studentregistry/exams/pdf/dissertation_titles_2007-08.pdf By reference to that publication they can be deciphered as follows: Discriminant analysis of patterns in images, image ensembles and videos Applications of Malliavin calculus in stochastic analysis and mathematical finance People are the network: Experimental design and evaluation of social based forwarding algorithms Queering sex tourism: The geographies of gay, transgender and female sex tourism in South-East Asia in the time of HIV Statistical methods for comparitive genomics in the field of bioinformatics Sequential Monte Carlo methods for multiple target tracking On using fuzzy data in security mechanisms Numerical approximation of highly oscillatory integrals A theory of violence and sexiness Numerical modelling of sediment delivery from tidewater glaciers to the marine environment Analytical and numerical studies of superpressure balloons Extraordinary sex rations* in African butterflies Limits that do not foreclose: biomedical intervention, hygiene and sex hormones in Salvador, Brazil Model diagnostics in multi-state models of biological systems Physical and mechanical properties of biopolymer cellular solids Turkaye: Turkic peoples in Syriac literature prior to the Seljüks Virtual scanning electron microscope: a web-based teaching and training solution for the scanning electron microscope Comparative ecology of the endemic Cyprus Warbler and the congeneric Sardinian Warbler: implications of recent coexistence Theoretical approaches to magnetic induction mapping in the transmission electron microscope * This is the one I think is a misprint and should be "ratios". But it is an official misprint on the original list. As is "comparitive" higher up.
