A Cross Country train at Coldham Junction
A train from Birmingham is approaching Cambridge on the main line from Ely. The single line curving sharply away to the right carries Ipswich trains calling at Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and a number of country stations. The picture was taken from Coldham's Lane bridge. Image], taken five minutes or so earlier, is a view from the other side of the bridge.

About to join the main line
A train from Ipswich inching round the tight curve which joins the Newmarket line to the main line about a mile north of Cambridge Station. The train is about to pass under Coldham's Lane. The barriers at Laundry Lane Level Crossing had just lifted and road traffic was about to cross - I pressed the shutter just in time.

Laundry Lane Crossing
This is where the line to Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket crosses Coldham's Road. The crossing is currently ungated, but half-barriers are in place, wrapped in black plastic and not yet operational.
