Widdington: nineteenth-century cottages
On High Street there are three pairs of 19th-century yellow-brick cottages, "each pair having an individually designed front. An advanced project for its period" (Grade II listing). The listing does not note that only this pair has Chinese (rat-trap) bond brickwork, with the bricks laid on edge and thus appearing larger than normal. This was an economy measure as fewer bricks were needed. Image] is to the right.
