The Coach and Horses
A grade II listed pub, originally dating from the late 16th century. The name presumably reflects its former status as a coaching inn on what prior to the building of the M11 motorway was the A11 London to Norwich Road. In an area of Newport known as the Green, stands a long row of fine houses. Some of them are good examples of timber-framed buildings.

Entrance to Shortgrove Park, Newport, Essex
There was a C16 mansion house on the estate but it burnt down in 1966. New buildings have replaced it and some stables on the estate have been converted into separate flats. In the 1870's gardens were laid out in the estate by William Charter.

Crown House, Bridge End, Newport (Essex)
Crown House is a late C16 house noted for its elaborate pargetting and the shell-hood above the front door, both added in 1692. It is described in 'The Buildings of England' as "one of Newport's two outstanding houses", the other being Monk's Barn which is already the subject of several Geographs.
