The "Belted Will" public house, Hallbankgate
The Inn gets its name from Lord William Howard. Born in 1563, he resided at nearby Naworth Castle Image and was nicknamed "Belted Will" by the Scottish Poet, Sir Walter Scott in "Lay of the Last Minstrel" on account of the broad belt he wore.
