Inscription, Hadrian?s Wall
On Hadrian’s Wall at Hare Hill, so weathered as to be virtually indistinguishable and in danger of being lost altogether, the Roman inscription PP is carved into the face of the stone in the centre of the photograph. It is possible that the inscription, approximately 1.8m above ground level is a mason’s mark. The fragment of the Roman wall at Hare Hill is the highest remaining section of the wall. There is speculation that this piece of wall may have been protected due to having been used as part of a later building, or perhaps it was a nineteenth century reconstruction.

Hadrian's Wall at Hare Hill
It is believed that this tiny bit of high wall survived because it was incorporated into the gable of a building at the time the wall on either side was robbed.
