Newton Arlosh Church
The Church of St John the Baptist was built in 1303 by the monks of nearby Holme Cultram Abbey and was fortified - a feature occasionally seen on English churches close to the Scottish border. It fell into disrepair following the dissolution of the monasteries but was restored in Victorian times.
