Punch Bowl Inn, Whitehaven
The current building stands on the site of an older inn which was called The Hammer & Wedge. Trade declined after the nearby auction mart ceased trading in the 1970's and the Punch Bowl closed in 2002.

Whitehaven Preston Street railway station (site), Cumbria
Opened in 1849 by the Whitehaven & Furness Junction Railway on the line from Whitehaven towards Barrow-in-Furness, this was the original terminus of the line. It only served passengers until 1854 when Bransty tunnel south from the current Whitehaven station was completed and linked up the two lines.
Preston Street continued as a goods station for many years (need to confirm final closure date) but is now inevitably a supermarket. The presumed boundary wall just can be seen at the back.

Corkickle Station
One of the many small stations managed by Northern Rail, possibly with few passengers, and one many will never have heard of. However, the second shelter suggests it may sometimes be busier than it was on this day.
