Man winding engine - Haig Colliery
This is a Bever and Dorling (of Bradford) winding engine. The winding gear for the man riding shaft was demolished in the 1980s when the pit closed. The museum retains both winding engines although only this one is open for public viewing.

Steam winding engine, Haig Colliery
This is the smaller Bever, Dorling engine, built 1916. 30" x 5' with a 14' drum. Stopped 1986. Now preserved and workable by compressed air. Several of my colleagues have driven this on compressed air (don't think I have).
