Second lime kiln at Little Asby
This lime kiln is in a slightly better condition than the other one I photographed a short distance away. Like the other kiln, it stands just outside the boundary of a holiday caravan park which occupies the site of an old limestone quarry. Although the burnt lime was used as a fertiliser on poor ground with acid soils, of which there is none in this locality, it was also used to improve the soils in limestone areas. Other uses included lime mortar, and lime wash for the interior of buildings.

Field barn, Little Asby
Stone barn or laithe at Little Asby. It looks in reasonable condition, but light inside, probably from holes in the roof, suggests decay.

Minor road approaching junction north of Little Asby
As the sign indicates a road soon branches to the left from the one in the image; it reaches the small village at Little Asby, the only way into that settlement by road. (Note: the farm ahead is not in Little Asby.)
