It is understood that the castle is currently undergoing some renovation work and there appears to be some grumblings, at time of writing, that National Trust/Heritage or some other Historical Society is not pulling its weight in order to get it opened up again to the public. Appleby post, erected by the Brough & Eamont Bridge turnpike trust in the 19th century.
