A narrow street off main street. The builder must have considered that a wider road would be a waste of land.

Mural in Cockermouth dedicated to Fearon Fallows, Astronomer
Fearon Fallows born in a weaver's cottage in 1788 in Cockermouth, taught at Plumbland School and later in South Africa, became astronomer to His Majesty George VI. He created the observatory at the Cape of Good Hope and was the first to map the southern skies, essential for navigation in the Southern Hemisphere at that time. He unfortunately caught scarlet fever and died in South Africa in 1831, aged only 43. He is one of Cockermouth's forgotten sons and this mural is dedicated to his achievements, to raise awareness of him and preserve his memory. This mural was painted by local artist Victor de Quincey and unveiled here in Lowther Went, in 2013.
