Looking along St Helens Street, Cockermouth. A street of colourful, traditional terraced houses with the modern additions of double yellow lines, parked cars, wheelie bins and TV aerials. The only things missing are satellite dishes!

This is the old part of town, near to the castle and the church. The market place was just a widening of the road, although it might well have been larger before the street was redeveloped in the 18C.

Pictured at Market Place - it is a 125 cc Vespa model LX 125 which reminds me of my first set of wheels. I kept falling off it and in those days, you wouldn't have thought of wearing a safety helmet
