Part of the pedestrianised town centre, Main Street runs through Market Square leaving it at the south-east corner.
This is the route of The Cumbria Way long distance path from Ulverston to Carlisle (next photograph Image).

Paraffin Alley, Keswick
Located at the southern end of Main Street, Paraffin Alley http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/951726 runs behind shops on Market Square.
So called because in times past the alley always had a faint odour of paraffin, which was stored at the back of an ironmonger's shop. The street sign was only put up in 2008, after a local campaign. However, some nearby business owners were not too happy with the name's smelly connotation. (Information from a report in the "News and Star").

Part of the pedestrianised town centre, Main Street leaves the south-east corner of The Market Place.
