A piece of decoratively carved stone incorporated into the stonework. It looks as though it originated elsewhere.

Grooves, porch of St Lawrence's Church, Morland
The sandstone blocks inside the porch are scored by these vertical grooves. I have seen scratches on the uprights of the porch here Image which were described as marks made by mediaeval archers sharpening their arrows in the days when archery practice was compulsory.

"May the giving hand never falter...."
This is the "poor man's box" which is situated near the south door of the church and has been in existence since 1648 and is still in use as an alms box today. I love the simplicity of the design and the function of the locking device created by a blacksmith all those years ago.
