Steam train approaching Tate's Avenue bridge - 1989
Until unrestricted vegetation growth and modernisation made such scenes almost impossible, there were still a few locations on the Belfast - Dublin railway line where the past could occasionally be recreated. On the last day of the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland's ( http://www.steamtrainsireland.com/ ) "Mount Brandon" railtour, former Great Northern Railway (Ireland) class V compound 4.4.0 No. 85 "Merlin" approaches Tate's Avenue bridge with some vintage coaching stock.
