Fermanagh Floods 2009 (6 of 19): Carry Bridge
After thirty-five consecutive days of rain in County Fermanagh throughout November 2009, the water levels on Lough Erne rose to 158ft above sea level (Ballyshannon). This was the highest since records began in 1956. The road onto Inishmore Island is closed here as a through route to Derrylin, owing to flooding along the road. The sign fails to mention that the diversion is through Enniskillen town - 20 miles as opposed to the normal 10. Back to: Image Forward to: Image

Upper Lough Erne at Carry Bridge
It appears just as a river here - part of the strait which separates Inishmore island from the eastern side of the lough. Carry Bridge is one of the busiest marinas on Upper Lough Erne. The bridge itself was damaged in a bomb during the old I.R.A.'s 1956 campaign.

A swan takes to the road at Carry Bridge
Fermanagh's reputation as a rustic county is upheld here on a foggy morning at Carry Bridge, near Lisbellaw - as a swan abandons Upper Lough Erne for the tarmac. Carry Bridge provide access from the eastern shore of Upper Lough Erne to Inishmore Island and acts as a through route to the western shore by way of the Inishmore Viaduct.

Fermanagh Floods 2009 (5 of 19): Aghnacarra
After thirty-five consecutive days of rain in County Fermanagh throughout November 2009, the water levels on Lough Erne rose to 158ft above sea level (Ballyshannon). This was the highest since records began in 1956. This field beside Upper Lough Erne has become one with the lough itself. Townland of Aghnacarra, between Derryharney Church and Carry Bridge.
