Main Street, Sion Mills
These houses were built for the mill workers of Herdmans Spinning mill. When "the hooter" sounded for "dinner time" the street would quickly fill with workers out for a quick reprieve from the dust and mayhem of the "roving room" or the "sorting room". In my day water was drawn from pumps here and not a car was to be seen. There were plenty of dogs, though with names such as Darkie, Rover,Hector and Bruno to name but a few. How times have changed can be seen by the numerous satellite dishes. Satellite television would be a sad loser to the characters who dwelt on this street when it came to wit, story telling and fun.
