These newer dwellings replaced the former stone-built convent and I understand that they are retirement homes for nuns.

Site of St John's Church, Strabane
It has been a shrine for many years, but one of the locals whose parents were married here and who I was speaking, remembers that the original building had a thatched roof and the bell was taken to Drumquin, possibly to here Image]
A large bell came here in 1999 from the demolished convent building on Newtownkennedy Street. See close-up of plaque Image]

Plaque, Shrine, Strabane
Located at Townsend, it reads, "The Convent Angelus Bell Donated by the Sisters of Mercy Strabane Blessed on the 11th February, 1999 By Bishop Francis Lagan"
The bell has an inscription on it, "J Murphy Foundry Dublin 1875"
