The old building is the American Laundry in the grounds of what once was Knocknamoe Castle, the former home of the Campbell family. It is the only building still standing in Omagh that the Americans used during World War 2. The castle was one of the places around the Omagh district that American soldiers were billeted during WWII After the war it became a hotel and apparently there were two guest rooms in it named “Eisenhower Suite” It was a popular dance venue and there was a bomb blast at the building in May 1973, in which five soldiers were killed. 20 years later it was accidentally burnt down and so badly damaged that it had to be demolished.
