Information board, The Royal Arms, Omagh
The following text is included in the panel: The Royal Arms Hotel, affectionately known as the 'Arms, was built in 1787. In the years that followed the building evolved from a Coach House to a Commercial Hotel housing Miller's Picture House until it was bought, in 1959, by Dai and Elaine Waterson. The Royal Arms then became one of the most successful Ballrooms in the North-West. Many international, national and local acts performed here. Performers as diverse as Jim Reeves, Dusty Springfield, The Clancy Brothers, Thin Lizzy and Brendan Bowyer, the Royal Showband and many local showbands all appeared on its stage. The Plattermen formed a close association with The Royal Arms and appeared here often. The turret-like facade of the Royal Arms Hotel can be seen to the right in the picture. Pictured here Image]
