St Michael's Church, 2 Darling Street, Enniskillen
Grade B+ listed church. This building replaced an earlier church with an 1803 date-stone that was renovated in 1825. This church, without seating, was lower down the slope on the western half of the site. In 1868 members of the congregation were injured by an unstable gallery and consequently on 15th August 1870 Rev. Dr Donnelly laid the foundation stone for this church. It was dedicated on 17th March 1875. The architect was John O’Neill of Messrs, O’Neill and Byrne, Dublin and Belfast and initial contractor was James Hughes, however the building was completed by James Harvey and the carvings were by Purdy of London. The building costs were £12,000. In 1898 the pine ceiling was added. James Harvey added the flying buttresses in 1921 due to weakness in the west wall and at the same time a baptistery and a vestibule were also added. Between 1991-1996 the erection of the spire and belfry and a complete refurbishment of the church took place.
