The Cromwell Road, Belfast (2)
See Image The view in the other direction (from Westminster Street Image) with Canterbury Street on the left. It developed, over a number of years, around 1875/80) and was home to the middle classes. Now very much houses of multiple occupation and bedsits.

No 42 Cromwell Road, Belfast
Definitely in the vacant category. Slightly surprising given the constant demand in the area, for houses for renovation and conversion to multiple occupation.

The Cromwell Road, Belfast
Just off Botanic Avenue, the Cromwell Road probably marks the start of bed-sit land. There has been some redevelopment (middle right) making it a lot less grim than some of the neighbouring streets. The view is towards Westminster Street. See also Image

Terrace, Cromwell Road, Belfast (May 2016)
A terrace, on the south western side of the Cromwell Road, close to Lawrence Street. Image is on the left. It seems to have been built before 1890 as residences occupied the middle/professional classes. Now converted to flats.

No 53 Cromwell Road, Belfast - November 2015(1)
An end-of-terrace house, at the corner of Lawrence Street (left), probably built around 1877/80, now being redeveloped as housing association flats. The Cromwell Road façade is being retained – everything else will be new. The relevant planning permission is “Z/2014/1103/F 53 Cromwell Road Botanic Avenue Belfast BT7 1JX Proposed extension and conversion of existing building to 9 no. 1 person 1 bedroom apartments.” Image shows the view from Lawrence Street. Railway, Botanic/Central, Belfast (May 2018)
The railway, from Cameron Street, between Botanic and Central, as a train heads towards the latter. I have a vague memory, from the 1950’s, of looking over the wall, from Vernon Street (background), as a steam-hauled goods passed. Don’t know though whether it was the GNRB or the UTA.
