Steps and doorway, Belfast
At just over a half mile long, University Street Image took more than 40 years to develop during the period of Victorian middle-class expansion and prosperity. Part of a terrace, nos 69 and 71 were among the last built – towards the end of the 19th century. Imposing (especially so considering the size of houses occupied by the unskilled working class Image) they were occupied by the headmistress of a girls school (Princess Gardens) and a seed merchant. No longer residences, they are now part of Queen’s University’s School of Education.

Vacant house near Queen's University, Belfast
Given its proximity to the university and the fact that the area has many houses of multiple occupation, it’s always surprising to find one vacant and semi derelict. No 54 University Street.
