The Church of the Ascension, Drumcree, Portadown.
It is known that there was a church in ruins in 1609 on this site. Shortly after that a church was built which seated 500 people. A tower was added in 1812. The foundation stone of the present church was laid on Ascension Day 17th May 1855. This Church of Ireland church, which stands on the site of all previous churches, was consecrated on 28th October 1856. The pipe organ was installed in 1907, the chancel floor was laid in 1955 and the church was re-slated, re-pointed and floodlit in 1992.

Drumcree Church
A beautiful church in a rural setting, but perhaps better known for the blockade erected on the road in the foreground by the Army to prevent the Orange Lodge procession going down Garvaghy Road.

Drumcree Church
After a few previous aborted attempts to get a decent shot of this scene - rain, poor light, empty foreground - I was rewarded on this sunny bike ride with perfect conditions. At least two of my foreground focal points took an interest in the proceedings. Cows are very inquisitive creatures and if I had waited a bit longer they would almost certainly have come over for a closer look.
