Armagh Elim Church.
George Jeffreys (1889 - 1962), the founder of the Elim Pentecostal Churches, was undoubtedly one of the greatest evangelists of the twentieth century. He was born in Maesteg, Glamorgan, the sixth son of Thomas and Kezia Jeffreys, and was converted in November 1904 during the Welsh Revival in 1910. Soon he began to be in demand as a preacher, at first in his own locality and then, as his reputation grew, further afield. Following an invitation to preach in Bangor in 1914, he met a group of like-minded young men in Monaghan in January 1915. That meeting led to the formation of the Elim Evangelistic Band and eventually brought the Elim Pentecostal Churches into being.

Remains of the Railway Bridge at Killuney, Armagh.
On Wednesday, June 12 1889, a terrible accident, usually referred to as the Great Armagh Railway Disaster, took place close to Armagh on the line to Newry and Warrenpoint. This disaster was the result of a collision at Killuney between the runaway rear portion of a Sunday School excursion train bound for Warrenpoint. The runaway carriages, as they rolled backwards, built up speed because of the gradient and then collided with the oncoming passenger train to Newry. Eighty-eight adults and children died and about 400 were injured.
