Tassagh Old Graveyard
The Old Graveyard beside Dundrum Road at Tassagh. Claimed to be the 2nd oldest graveyard in Ireland and once site of an ancient priory. The graveyard is listed as an historical site. The quotation below is from Armagh, City of Light and Learning: Paintings and Stories from the Orchard County, by Maureen Campbell. "According to Bassett (1888) the old graveyard at Tassagh was originally intended as a burial place for secular priests serving in the Culdee Priory in Armagh and it is considered to be one of the oldest graveyards in Ireland. A gold ring containing a "large emerald in a rich setting" was discovered during excavations in 1824 and a more recent discovery of what appears to be a Lavabo, a washing trough used in medieval monasteries, bears out the belief that a small priory once stood in Tassagh."
