Dunluce Castle [6]
An information board. The castle was started circa 1550 and was expanded greatly in the 16th century. This expansion included a planned settlement, Dunluce Town. The castle and the town were abandoned at the end of the 17th century. Both the castle and the town site are scheduled monuments with details at: http://appsc.doeni.gov.uk/ambit/Details.aspx?MonID=167 and at: http://appsc.doeni.gov.uk/ambit/Details.aspx?MonID=172

Dunluce "New Town"
An archaeological excavation on land near Dunluce Castle has revealed a complete house on a site believed to be the village of Dunluce. The site is believed to contain a whole village and it is hoped that funds may be provided to enable further excavation. There are no "finds" from the site later than c1641 and it would appear that the village was abandoned at around that time and the Scottish Lowlanders who would have been the principle occupants went back across to Scotland.
