See Image Before the installation of the barriers the level crossing had gates controlled by a wheel in the signal cabin (right) and pedestrians were able to cross by a footbridge (on which I was standing) when the gates were closed across the road. Weed spraying train, Coleraine
The CIE weed sprayer had arrived at Coleraine, from Portrush, bound for Londonderry. The timing coincided with the crossing of up and down Belfast/Londonderry trains and an arrival and departure on the Portrush branch. Four trains were more than Coleraine station’s layout allowed. The solution was to store the sprayer, temporarily, in the stub of the old harbour line Image
