DE set, Castlerock (1984)
The standard NCC main line train of the early 1980’s was a three car DE set – one motor coach, one intermediate and a driving trailer. This one (Easter Monday) was a bit different – it had two motor coaches 76, 713,73. The train is the 14.10 Belfast Central – Londonderry.

Test train at Castlerock station
CIE had acquired new coaches (based on the BR Mk III design). The test train was a clearance run to make sure that the stock (leading two vehicles) would meet the NIR loading gauge (don’t ask what would have happened it hadn’t). See also Image
