Derry - Bogside - Petrol Bomber ( Battle of the Bogside ) (1994)
Location is at the corner of Westland Street & Lecky Road. View is to the southwest. This was the first mural created by the Bogside Artists in 1994. This mural commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Battle of the Bogside. The boy is wearing a WWII gas mask as protection against CS (tear) gas used by the police. High rise Rossville flats with rioters on the roofs were prevalent in the Bogside area and Butcher Gate at Derry's Walls.

Bogside Murals - Bernadette Devlin
The large gable-wall murals by the Bogside Artists https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogside_Artists , Free Derry Corner https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Derry_Corner and the Gasyard Féile (an annual music and arts festival held in a former gasyard) are popular tourist attractions. This mural depicts some scenes from the 'Battle of the Bogside' which took place in August 1969 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bogside . The mural depicts Bernadette McAliskey (Devlin at the time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernadette_Devlin_McAliskey ) addressing the crowds on the streets of the Bogside. She later received a prison sentence for taking part in, and inciting, a riot. She served as Member of Parliament for Mid Ulster from 1969 to 1974. At the time of her election, at the age of 21, she was the youngest ever MP and she remained the youngest woman ever elected to Westminster until the May 2015 general election when 20-year-old Mhairi Black, representing the Scottish National Party, broke Devlin's record.
The mural was painted in 1996.

Bogside Stores, Derry
This has recently been branded a 'Vivo' store. At 13 Meenan Square. This shop is one of the few places where one can buy McDaid's Football Special in Northern Ireland - it's a unique fizzy drink made in Ramelton, County Donegal - rather addictive!
