Artwork, Macmillan Centre, Altnagelvin Hospital
The plaque includes the following text: Artwork at the Health and Wellbeing Campus The art is an integral part of this Health and Wellbeing Campus and takes its inspiration partly from the name of Altnagelvin itself 'glen/height of the sparrows'. It is also enriched by the story of Agnes Jones - the renowned nurse and protege of Florence Nightingale. Agnes Jones, who lived locally, was enchanted with the beauty of wildflowers, nature and the local landscape. The theme of birds in flight and local wildflowers in early springtime is reflected in all the artwork. The sculpture and imagery was designed by Locky Morris, in consultation with people affected by cancer. Within the Macmillan Support Centre, this theme is also reflected in the decorative ceramic piece created by Diane McCormick.
