The Great Northern bay, Antrim station
Antrim station was part of the Midland Railway (Northern Counties Committee) but was shared with the GNR(I) (see Image) which had this bay platform (beside the NCC’s down platform) for trains using the line to Knockmore Jct. A two-car “80” class set is awaiting departure with the 14.35 to Belfast Gt Victoria Street. A withdrawn BUT car Image (left) awaits scrapping. This area, formerly the Gt Northern yard, was later converted to bus parking Image and is now undergoing redevelopment as part of a new joint bus and railway station. Photograph taken by local arrangement with NIR.

Antrim Station
A 1979 view of Antrim Station. The gateway on the right of the photo, leads to the Ulsterbus depot. Previously, this area contained an engine shed, water tower and a small goods yard belonging to the Great Northern Railway of Ireland. I'm not certain, but I think the righthand side of Antrim Station building was rented to the GNRI as a ticket office, to sell tickets to those passengers that wished to travel to Belfast via Crumlin and Lisburn.

The Great Northern bay, Antrim station (1995)
See Image (April 1975). On Saturday 22 July 1995 the line was closed between Botanic and Adelaide to accommodate work on the laying of City Jct Image A revised timetable operated with Lisburn/Portadown trains terminating at Adelaide and Dublin trains at Lisburn with bus connections to Belfast. The Londonderry/Portrush service was operated from Botanic with trains running via the closed line between Bleach Green and Antrim. There was also a limited service between Lisburn and Antrim (via Crumlin). The 11.48 Lisburn-Antrim is using the overgrown Great Northern Bay at Antrim where it connected with the 11.33 Botanic-Londonderry (right). Antrim station is in two squares.
